Apple building a fuel cell and solar farm

It looks like Wired went all James Bond and have been able to get some aerial images of, what appears to be, Apple preparing land in and around their NC data center for rolling out their biogas and solar farms.

We all saw the images of their existing data farm in NC; this hold the servers that power most of Apple’s iCloud and iTunes service, as well as being the cerebellum for Siri.

Apparently, reports indicate that the facility should be operational later this year and that it will provide about 10% of the power needed to run the data center. This data center is massive….500k ft to be exact, so 10% of that power is a pretty good dent into the power bill!

Once completed, this will be the largest privately own system of its kind in the nation.  Well done Apple!

I found the article on appadvice, but the article has a link to the Wired website.
