July 9 doomsday virus

There is a trojan out there that tricks PC’s and Macs into redirecting all their internet traffic through malicious servers. Even though the creators have been arrested, millions of PCs could still be infected.

1 in 5 Macs are infected!

In a recent report from Sophos, they suggest that up to 1 in 5 Macs are infected with some form of Windows based malware and 1 in 36 are running Mac specific viruses, malware or exploits.

According to a recent snapshot taken from 100,000 Mac computers running Sophos’ free anti-virus software, over 20% of Macs ran a Windows-specific form of malware, but only 2.7% of machines contained Mac OS X malware.

I don’t care about the old adage that Mac’s don’t get viruses, it is foolish not to run AV on a machine. I personally run Sophos on my iMac and wouldn’t have it any other way.
